  • Michael De Marco is the Global Head Research & Development Human Nutrition and Pharma Solutions. He worked at BASF in various positions since 2002, including several years in the USA.
    His professional experience includes Product and Process Development, Global Key Account Management, Venture Capital Investments, Cooperate Projects and Business Management in different BASF Divisions. In his current role he is responsible for the research and development of new products, ingredients and solutions in the human nutrition and pharma industry.
    BASF has merged the two business to strengthen the position as the only supplier in the industry with more than 150 years’ experience in the human nutrition and pharma industry.
    Michael studied organic chemistry in Giessen, Germany and holds a PhD.

  • Laetitia GUERIN-DEREMAUX is Senior Research Manager in the Nutrition & Health R&D team with more than 14 years of experience in nutrition at Roquette France. She is more specifically involved in the development of the nutritional data for Roquette’s fibers and proteins. In this position, she manages preclinical and clinical studies, confirming nutritional benefits of these ingredients through a scientific approach.
    Her main fields of expertise are satiety and weight management, blood glucose management, colonic health and muscle development.
    Laetitia has co-authored many scientific papers published in peer reviewed journals. She obtained an engineering degree in biology from the University of Technology of Compiègne (France) in 2002.

  • After his study of human nutrition at Wageningen University, Mr. Clabbers started working for Numico (now Danone). In the following decade, he held several positions in the food industry where he, as a nutritional scientist, always worked closely together with sales and marketing. Optimizing communication to very diverse target groups, based on the intrinsic value of the products, the newest scientific knowledge, the market in question and the regulatory possibilities. In his last position before joining TNO in 2011, Clabbers was a member of the Global Nutrition Centre of the Hero Group and responsible for all scientific and regulatory affairs for the Benelux, with brands such as Hero, Friso Infant Nutrition, Bledina and Organix.

    At TNO, he has been responsible for the business line Food and Health before starting as Senior Business Developer Personalized Nutrition and Health in 2015. In this role, Nard Clabbers has set up a large research program that looks at technical and social innovations to enable personalized nutrition through consumer empowerment. This research ecosystem is a unique public private partnership in cooperation with international companies and Wageningen University. This precompetitive research program is unique in two ways. It combines nutritional, behavioral and ICT sciences in a public-private consortium and includes all the partners that need each other to develop new business cases in the real world.

  • Barbara Stewart-Knox is currently based within the Division of Psychology at the University of Bradford, UK. She achieved a degree in psychology followed by a PhD in food choice at Queens University Belfast, UK. She took up a post at the University of Ulster, UK, in 1994 and joined the Northern Ireland Centre for Food and Health in 1996 where she remained until 2013.
    Barbara’s research interests continue to be focussed on understanding food-related behaviour, consumer food choice (including sensory factors), infant feeding attitudes, and, nutrient/ food-mediated psychological functions.
    Her activities have involved participation in Food Standards Agency, Safefood and EU-funded research including the Zenith, Lipgene and Food4Me projects; all of which have employed triangulated designs to understand responses, both psychological and physiological, to food and nutrition in various populations.
